Refinitiv

Lead User Interface Designer • Oct 2018 - Aug 2019

Refinitiv Labs

Refinitiv Labs – later becoming LSEG Labs – was an in-house innovation team for which I was the lead user interface designer. The team was comprised of UI & UX designers, data scientists and software engineers whose objective was to help identify new business opportunities within Refinitiv & LSEG, assess emerging technologies (machine learning, natural language processing) and to host knowledge sharing events and presentations. The Labs produced a large number of POCs, typically focussing on ML & NLP and sentiment analysis, though a number of projects explored VR prototyping and leveraging text-to-speech technology to deliver Reuters news content on mobile and smart speaker.

The Labs hosted an open day to showcase a number of ML & NLP projects, for which I created a short video. A number of presentations and interviews were captured throughout the day, including with David Craig (former CEO of Refinitiv).

Newscasts

The objective of this project was to gain an understanding of user behaviours and needs regarding audio news, exploring existing solutions and technical constraints.

A beta app (iOS only) was developed to help test and validate functionality with users, including the listenability of text-to-speech technology and the ability to personalise news feeds with relevant topics.

Working closely with UX research and software engineers, I had created a prototype using Principle (and later Figma) and videos to help give an overview of the concept and to demo the extent of the prototype. These materials were particularly useful for engaging with stakeholders and providing a clear visual direction when handing over to engineering.
