Converse

I’m a big fan of Converse Chuck Taylor’s (high-tops as a kid and low-riders as an adult), so it was only a matter of time until I made a pair in 3D. This model is intended as a prop within a larger scene, forming one part of a series of prints. In my usual style, this series aims to encapsulate my love of 80s & 90s nostalgia.

This was a particularly challenging modelling project, as all of my prior projects have focussed on flatter, more solid surfaces. The smooth shapes, stitching and complexity of the laces put me out of my comfort zone and prompted me to learn a bunch of new techniques. Utilising modifiers such as lattice, shrink-wrap, array and curve were all used to help bind geometry together and distort the shoe into this form.
